Dads' Group offers games and entertainment and group therapy for dad’s and their children
GAMES and entertainment will help fathers and their children enjoy quality time as part of a new group starting up in Huddersfield.
Every first Sunday of each month starting from 5th July 2009 at 10.00am till 12.00pm, working in partnership with The Zone in Huddersfield, will be open to local fathers, step fathers, grand fathers and male carers and their youngsters up to the age of 5 for some fun time together and the chance of meeting other dads and allow mum to have a lie in and a morning off from the children. What more could you ask for?
Allowing our children to play and mix with other children.
We also have access to a quiet room where we chat, and drink tea and coffee, including special hi-tech computers with access to the internet and Nintendo Wii games. There are toilets nearby and most important of all, no escape routes for little ones!
Activities include:
Parachute
Two part session. First part enables dads and their children to make a variety of different paper aeroplanes using coloured paper and card. The second part is for children to sit on the floor and fly their aeroplanes while dads hoist the parachute creating the effect of the wind.
Dad’s fancy dress
The dads sit in a circle. Within the circle, there will be a box of fancy dress outfits. The children will be able to choose a fancy dress outfit for their dad from the box. The best dressed dad will win a prize.
Toddler Disco (ideal for December)
The disco will be for dads and their children.
Face Painting
A face painter will be available to paint your child’s face, and of course if any of the dads are brave enough, the children can paint their face.
Matching and Mirroring
Copying the movement of your child for e.g. smiling, waving, singing nursery rhymes. Dads and children can also take part in themes, such as listening to animal noises and acting out the movement of the animal together.
Baby Massage
A professional therapist will be available to teach dads some basic techniques on how to massage their baby.
Model Making
Bringing in old bits and bobs from the house e.g. toilet roll tubes and cereal boxes and learn to make a volcano or a house with your child.
Circus Skills – Magic and Juggling
Two part session. First part is to make witches hats and wizard hats. Second part. Dads and children will get the opportunity to work with a magician, learning a simple magic trick to perform. If magic does not take your fancy, how about juggling instead. Dads and children will get the opportunity to work with a juggler.
Animal Face Masks
Dads and children can make animal face masks.
Puppet Show
Dads and children can bring in their old socks from home to make an unusual puppet.
There will also be a show. Dads and children to take part, prize for the best ventriloquist which will be a dad singing his favourite nursery rhyme without moving his lips.
Toddler Nursery Rhyme Concert
Dads and children to bring in any item from home that makes a noise. For example playing the spoons or blowing raspberries down a toilet roll tube and using a plastic Tupperware box as a drum. Playing their new found instrument along to their favourite nursery rhymes.
